Microplastic beats plankton

In the water laboratory of the “Kali Surabaya River Detective School”, students examine the water sample they have taken from the river under a microscope. They look for plankton. Meanwhile, ecologists of the Indonesian NGO Ecoton┬átell them that plankton is the main food source for fish. Fish that they eat, just like many other animal species do. A river without plankton is a dead river. Unfortunately, the children find more microplastics than plankton in the water. In this way they experience that life in the river is threatened.
