Civil society groups protect their source of drinking water

Indonesian and international environmental organizations join hands to tackle the increasing pollution of the Brantas River in East Java. The river is the source of drinking water for more than 15 million people in East Java. They do this in many different ways. They research life in the river and how it is affected by pollution with citizens science, reintroduce fish species, provide environmental education to students and organize campaigns to urge the government to take tougher action against the polluters.
